Specifying a DC distribution board

EGIS components are the building blocks of a marine DC panel rather than finished products in their own right, so the job usually starts with a wiring plan. Terminal blocks group and colour-code circuits so a bilge pump, nav lights or a windlass motor each get their own fused feed; relays let a low-current switch or NMEA 2000 signal control a high-current load without running heavy cable to the helm.

Battery combiners and isolators decide how charging current is shared between banks, which matters once you have more than one battery or a lithium bank alongside a starter battery. Get the polarity and current rating wrong on a combiner and you risk cross-charging batteries of different chemistries.

XD Flex modules extend this into programmable digital switching, replacing banks of mechanical switches with a single controllable module wired into the DC system. Whichever route you take, match every component to the actual current draw of the circuit and fuse accordingly; undersized cable or an oversized fuse is the most common fault we see on rewired boards.
