Marine DC Distribution & Circuit Protection
Safely distribute and protect your vessel's DC electrical system with professional marine distribution equipment. Our comprehensive collection features:
- Bus Bars & Power Distribution - Centralized power distribution points
- Circuit Breakers - Resettable overcurrent protection
- Fuses - Traditional fuse protection
- Fuse Holders - Inline and panel-mount fuse holders
- Switches & Panels - Distribution panels and switch panels
All components meet ABYC standards for marine electrical installations, ensuring safe and reliable power distribution throughout your vessel.
Modern Alternatives: Consider digital switching systems from CZone, EmpirBus, or Maretron for advanced control. Power with marine batteries and power management systems.
Sizing and protecting a DC circuit
Getting DC distribution right starts with matching protection to cable, not the other way round. Every circuit needs a fuse or breaker rated to the cable's current-carrying capacity, positioned as close to the power source as practical; undersized cable behind an oversized fuse is one of the more common faults found on survey. Bus bars and fuse blocks then let you split that protected power out to multiple circuits without a stack of ring terminals on a single stud.
The choice between fuses and circuit breakers often comes down to how often a circuit needs resetting. Breakers suit circuits like bilge pumps or lighting that get tripped occasionally; fuses are simpler and cheaper for circuits that rarely fault. On 24V systems, remember that cable sizing and voltage drop calculations differ from 12V, so don't assume a spec that worked on one system carries straight over to the other.
