Description

The Calypso ultrasonic wind meter measures apparent wind speed and direction using four ultrasonic transducers rather than a spinning cup and vane, so there is nothing to wear out, jam or need calibration. It connects straight to an NMEA 2000 backbone and outputs wind data as standard, making it a plug-and-play upgrade for modern instrument systems.

This ultra-low-power version reads wind speed from 0.5 to 45 m/s with an accuracy of 0.1 m/s at 10 m/s, and wind direction across the full 0 to 359 degrees to within 1 degree, sampling once a second. Built from machined black engineering plastic, it measures 70 mm in diameter by 74 mm high, weighs 200 g and is sealed to IPX8. It runs on 5 to 36 VDC and mounts via three M4 threaded holes.

Does the sensor have any moving parts?
No. It uses four ultrasonic transducers to measure wind, so there are no cups or vanes to wear, jam or need recalibration.
How does it connect to my instruments?
It outputs NMEA 2000 as standard and connects directly to an NMEA 2000 backbone, so it works as a plug-and-play wind source for compatible displays.
What wind range and accuracy does it measure?
It reads wind speed from 0.5 to 45 m/s with an accuracy of 0.1 m/s at 10 m/s, and wind direction across the full 0 to 359 degrees to within 1 degree.
