Navionics+ versus Platinum+ explained
Navionics+ covers the core chart detail most cruising sailors need: contour lines, tides, currents and a community layer built from other boaters' tracks and edits. Platinum+ adds satellite overlay and higher resolution relief shading on top of that, which shows the shape of the seabed rather than just spot depths, and tends to matter most for anyone anchoring in unfamiliar bays or navigating close to shoal water rather than running a fixed coastal route.
Coverage is sold by region, so check that the card or app subscription covers everywhere you actually cruise before assuming UK coverage extends further afield. Cards are cut for a specific chartplotter's card slot format, and the same underlying data is also available through the Boating app for a phone or tablet, which is worth having as a backup even on a boat with a fixed plotter installed.
