Finding the right replacement part
Instrument spares are rarely interchangeable across brands even when the function is identical, so the safest way to identify the right part is by the model number printed on the original unit or its mounting cutout, rather than by the instrument's general type. A transom-mount transducer from one maker, for example, will not plug into another manufacturer's display even where the cable count matches.
Wear tends to show up in predictable places: paddlewheel sensors silt up or seize, wind vane bearings develop play, and display covers craze or lose their seal after years of UV exposure. Replacing these individually is usually quicker than swapping a whole instrument, provided the connector and cable length match what is already fitted.
Where a part has been superseded, the new version often carries a different part number but remains physically and electrically compatible. Check the fitting notes on the product page, or ask, if the old part number no longer appears.
