Keeping a B&G sonar system serviceable
Sonar spares are almost always tied to a specific transducer or sonar module generation, so the safest approach is to identify the exact part fitted before ordering a replacement rather than assuming a general match. Fairing blocks, for instance, are shaped to a particular hull deadrise and transducer body, correcting the mounting angle so the beam points straight down rather than off to one side; the wrong block leaves the transducer reading a false depth or losing bottom lock at speed.
Transducer cables can generally be extended, but joins should be made with a proper waterproof connector rather than heat shrink and solder alone, since a failed joint below the waterline is awkward to fix once the boat is back in the water. If a transducer or cable has been replaced at any point, it is worth checking the connector generation matches the sonar module it is feeding, as B&G's fitting has changed across product generations.
