Working out which converter you need
DC-DC converters do two different jobs and it is worth being clear which one you need before ordering. A battery-to-battery charger takes power from a starter battery or alternator and conditions it to charge a separate house bank correctly, which matters most when charging lithium from an alternator designed for lead-acid. A voltage converter, by contrast, simply steps 12V up to 24V or down again to run equipment on a different system voltage.
Isolated models add galvanic isolation between input and output, useful where sensitive electronics or a mixed-voltage system need protection from noise or ground loops. Size the converter to the continuous current draw of what it feeds, with headroom for start-up surge, and fuse both the input and output sides rather than just one.
