Radome versus open array on a smaller boat
An enclosed radome trades some range and target resolution for a much smaller footprint and less windage aloft, which is why it suits sailing boats and smaller powerboats where mast weight and clearance matter. An open array generally sees further and resolves targets more clearly at range but needs a mount built for its size and rotating mass.
Weight at the masthead affects a sailing boat's stability more than most owners expect, so check the radome's weight against what your mast and rigging were designed to carry, particularly on an older boat where the rig was specified before radar was ever fitted.
Cable routing through the mount and up the mast needs a proper gland and enough service loop to allow for movement, and the radome bracket needs to suit both the mast diameter and the radar unit's own fixing pattern, so check both before ordering rather than assuming a universal fit.
