Choosing a mount for open array or dome
An open array radar needs a mount rated for its rotating mass and wind load, typically on a mast bracket, arch or dedicated pole, while a dome radar is lighter and more often sits on a flat platform or radar arch tray. Get the mounting height right at the planning stage, since raising a radar later usually means a different bracket rather than an adjustment to the existing one.
Vibration is the main enemy of radar performance and antenna life, so a mount rated for the specific radar's weight matters more than one that simply fits the footprint. Modular platforms let you add a satcom dome or camera to the same mast section later, worth considering even if you only need radar now.
Route the radar cable with a service loop and a proper gland where it passes through the mount or deck, and check the connector type matches your radar unit, since Raymarine, Simrad, Garmin and Furuno all use different plugs.
