Choosing a pod for your helm layout
Helm pods solve two problems at once: a weatherproof enclosure for the display and a tidy route for cabling that would otherwise run loose across the dash. Pre-cut options exist for specific display models, so check the cut out dimensions against your chartplotter or instrument before ordering rather than assuming a generic size will fit.
Where you're mounting more than one device, such as a plotter alongside an autopilot control head, think about viewing angle and reach from the helm seat as much as available space, since a pod fitted purely to what's convenient to cut often ends up awkward to use underway.
Cable glands built into the base of the pod need to match the diameter of the cables passing through them, including power, data and any antenna leads, so it's worth counting cables before finalising which pod and gland configuration to order.
