Picking the right mount for the job

Scanstrut's mounting hardware is graded by load and vibration as much as by looks, so match the bracket to what it is carrying. A radar or satcom mount needs to cope with wind loading on a moving mast or arch, while a Scanpod or instrument pod is really about cutting a clean panel opening for a plotter and keeping wiring hidden below.

IPX ratings tell you about water ingress, not impact resistance; an Atmos case rated IPX6 will shrug off green water over the bow but is not a substitute for a properly bonded through-deck cable entry on a permanent installation. Check the mount's stated device weight range before fitting a larger multifunction display than the bracket was designed for.

Cable management is worth planning at the same time as the mount. A gland sized to the cable diameter, and a route that avoids sharp bends at the connector, will do more for long-term reliability than the mount itself.
