Mounting Starlink for life underway
A Starlink dish designed for a fixed roof or garden mount faces a different set of loads once it is underway: vibration, heel and the shock of slamming into a chop all work at the mount's fixings over time in a way a static land installation never sees, so a marine-specific mount and properly torqued, corrosion-resistant fixings matter more than they would ashore. Positioning also needs more thought on a moving boat, since the dish needs a largely unobstructed view of the sky in every direction the boat might be pointing, not just when moored bow-to.
Cable run length between the dish and the router indoors is limited by the standard cable supplied, so a longer run to a below-decks router location may need a specific extension rather than a generic cable joined mid-run. Power draw is worth checking against the boat's house battery capacity too, since a dish left running continuously at anchor adds a steady load that a standard leisure bank may not be sized for over several days off grid.
