Cable lengths and connectors for B&G radar
The main decision on a radar cable is length: measure the actual run from the radar mount down through the mast or arch to the display location, including any service loop, rather than the straight-line distance, since cable rarely follows a direct path on a boat. Buying a cable that is slightly too short is a common and avoidable mistake.
RayNet connectors are B&G and Simrad's own Ethernet-style plug and are not the same as a generic network cable, so an adaptor is needed where a radar cable needs to join standard cabling or pass through a bulkhead gland. Check which connector your radar unit and display each use, since older and newer B&G radars have used different plug types over the years.
Keep joins and adaptors to a minimum where possible, as each connection point is somewhere moisture or a poor crimp can introduce a fault later.
