Wiring an anchor windlass switch

Anchor windlass switches carry the control signal to the windlass solenoid rather than the full motor current, so the switch itself only needs to handle a low current circuit even though it is switching a heavy load indirectly. Foot switches at the bow and a panel switch at the helm are often wired in parallel, letting either location operate the windlass, which is worth planning for if you want control from more than one position.

Waterproofing at the switch and its cable entry point matters more on a foredeck switch than almost anywhere else on the boat, given constant spray and standing water exposure, so check the IP rating and use a sealed cable gland rather than a bare grommet.

Match the switch to your specific Quick windlass model rather than assuming a universal fit, since control wiring and solenoid requirements vary across the range. Contact us if you are unsure which switch your capstan needs.
