Sealing a Starlink cable through deck or bulkhead
Starlink's power and data cable comes in more than one profile depending on generation, some round and some flat, so the gland needs to match the cable actually supplied with your kit rather than a generic size. A deck-mounted gland needs to shed standing water and UV exposure that a bulkhead fitting inside the boat will not see, which is why the two are not always interchangeable even where the cable diameter is the same. Fitting the gland before running the cable, rather than after, avoids having to cut and re-terminate a connector that was not designed to be reworked.
Where the cable run crosses more than one compartment, a separate seal at each penetration maintains watertight integrity between spaces rather than relying on a single gland at the point of entry. Check the cable diameter against the gland's stated range before ordering, since a gland fitted too loose will not seal reliably in a seaway.
