Tiller Pilots
Marine Tiller Autopilots for Sailing Boats
Compact tiller autopilots designed specifically for tiller-steered sailboats. Our collection features self-contained autopilots from Raymarine, Simrad, and Garmin perfect for cruising sailors.
Sailing Autopilots: Part of our Autopilots collection. Compare with wheel pilots for wheel-steered boats or inboard pilots for larger vessels. Integrate with B&G or Raymarine sailing instruments via NMEA 2000.
Sizing a tiller pilot to your boat
Tiller pilots are rated by boat displacement and by the push or thrust force the ram delivers, so check your boat's laden weight against the unit's stated limit rather than its length, since a heavier, beamier boat loads the tiller more than a light one of similar size. An underpowered unit will struggle to hold course when reaching in a breeze or surfing down waves, hunting constantly and draining its battery faster than expected.
Most tiller pilots mount and demount in seconds via a pin on the tiller and a deck or pushpit socket, worth remembering for stowage below when not in use, since damp cockpit lockers shorten the life of the internal ram. Where the boat already carries wind or GPS data on NMEA 2000, a networked tiller pilot can steer to a waypoint rather than just a compass heading. Ask us if you need help checking the load rating against your boat.
