Where to mount a daylight camera
Camera placement decides more about usable image quality than resolution does. A transom or stern-mounted camera earns its keep when reversing onto a berth, while a mast or arch position gives a wider view for monitoring the anchor or a following sea; low-light models extend that same view into dusk and poor weather using a larger sensor and slower shutter, rather than active infrared.
Most cameras here feed video to a compatible Simrad, Raymarine, Garmin or Furuno multifunction display, either over a dedicated video cable or the same NMEA 2000 network as other instruments, so check which video input your display supports before choosing a camera. If total darkness matters more than dusk visibility, a thermal camera is the better fit rather than a low-light model, since it works from heat rather than available light.
