Horizontal On-Deck Windlasses
Quick Horizontal On-Deck Windlasses — part of the Quick Anchoring Systems & Capstans range.
Why choose a horizontal windlass
A horizontal on-deck windlass keeps the motor and gearbox above deck rather than below it, which suits boats with a shallow anchor locker that cannot accommodate a vertical unit's drop height. The trade-off is deck space: the housing sits above the deck rather than out of sight, so check clearance around the bow before choosing this layout over a vertical model.
Chain still needs to fall clear into the locker beneath the gypsy, so locker depth matters even though it is less critical than with a vertical windlass, and the gypsy must be matched to your chain's exact size in the same way. Motor rating is again sized against chain size and typical ground tackle weight, and system voltage, 12V or 24V, needs confirming against the boat's existing wiring before ordering.
