Wiring proportional control into a windlass system

Proportional control varies windlass speed according to how far a control is pressed or moved, rather than the simple on and off of a standard rocker switch, which gives finer control when snubbing up the last few metres of chain. Fitting proportional control generally means the windlass motor circuit runs through a compatible solenoid or motor controller rather than a basic contactor, so check your existing windlass wiring supports it before adding a control head.

Foot switches, panel-mounted controls and remote handsets can often share the same proportional control circuit, but each needs wiring back to the control unit correctly rather than tapped in an ad hoc way, since proportional signals are more sensitive to wiring faults than a simple switched circuit.

If you are upgrading an existing on/off windlass to proportional control, check compatibility with your specific Quick windlass model before ordering, or get in touch and we can confirm what is needed.
