Solar cable gauge and connectors
Cable gauge for a solar installation should be chosen against the length of run between panel and charge controller, not just the panel's rated current, since voltage drop increases with distance and a cable that is too thin for a long run reduces the effective output of the panel. Shorter runs can generally use a lighter cable than a panel mounted well away from the controller.
MC4 connectors are the standard fitting for most solar cable and extension leads, so check panel and controller both use MC4 before assuming an extension will connect directly; older or non-standard panels sometimes need an adaptor. A fuse or breaker sized to the cable, not just the panel output, belongs between the panel and the controller, and again between the controller and the battery, to protect the wiring if a fault develops.
