Radome or open array on a sailing yacht
A radome is the natural fit for most sailing yachts: it is self-contained, relatively light, and mounts on a mast bracket without the weight aloft that an open array adds, which matters more on a sailing hull than a powerboat given how sensitive stability is to weight held high up. Open array scanners give a narrower beam width for a given size, which improves bearing resolution and separates close targets more clearly, but the extra weight and swept diameter make them harder to fit on a mast rather than an arch.
Whichever type you choose, radar only adds real value once it is networked to a chartplotter capable of overlaying the picture and tracking targets, rather than viewed as a standalone screen; B&G's radar range is built to feed this data over the same network as the instruments, so check your existing display supports radar overlay before assuming any radome will simply plug in and work.
