Circuit Breakers

Marine Circuit Breakers - Resettable Overcurrent Protection

Resettable circuit breakers for marine electrical protection. Our collection features thermal and magnetic circuit breakers designed for harsh marine environments, providing reliable overcurrent protection for all DC circuits.

Circuit breakers offer convenient resettable protection compared to fuses, essential for protecting wiring, equipment, and preventing electrical fires. All breakers meet ABYC standards for marine use.

Electrical Protection: Part of our DC Distribution collection. Use with bus bars, switch panels, and fuses. Essential for protecting batteries, inverters, and all electrical systems. Modern alternative: digital switching with integrated protection.

Thermal or magnetic, and how to size one

A circuit breaker has to be sized to the cable it protects, not the appliance drawing power from it. Check the conductor's current rating and choose a breaker at or below that figure, then confirm the trip curve suits the load, since motors and pumps draw a brief inrush current that a breaker rated too close to running current will trip on. Thermal breakers respond more slowly to a gradual overload and suit lighting and accessory circuits, while magnetic types trip faster and suit more sensitive electronics.

Many panel mount breakers double as an on and off switch for the circuit, which is handy at a switch panel but not a substitute for a fuse where a fast, precise trip is required close to a battery terminal. Surface mount breakers with a manual reset button tend to be more practical for engine bay or lazarette installations where a panel is not easily reached.
