Planning an EmpirBus installation

An EmpirBus system is built around DCM (Distributed Control Module) units, each with a fixed number of inputs and outputs, so the first step is counting the circuits you actually need to control and working out how many DCMs and how much cable that requires. Unlike a conventional panel, each circuit is programmed rather than hard-wired to a switch, using EmpirBus's own configuration software, which is where most of the flexibility comes from but also where planning matters most before installation begins.

EmpirBus runs on NMEA 2000 for data but keeps its own proprietary control layer, so while it will sit on the same backbone as other NMEA 2000 instruments, it is not directly interchangeable with CZone or Maretron hardware. On a retrofit, expect to spend more time tracing existing circuits back to their loads than fitting the DCM modules themselves.
