FLIR
FLIR is the world leader in marine thermal imaging. Hudson Marine supplies the full FLIR range, from M-Series gyro-stabilised thermal cameras to fixed-mount night-vision systems, with the cabling, mounts and displays to integrate them.
Which FLIR range suits your boat
FLIR's marine cameras split broadly into fixed thermal units and gyro stabilised, pan and tilt systems, and the choice between them usually comes down to vessel size and how the image will be used. A fixed camera gives a stabilised horizon view for night passage making at a set angle, while a gyro stabilised model can be slewed to track a target or a hazard and holds a steadier picture in a seaway, which matters more on a moving flybridge than at anchor.
Most FLIR cameras output standard video or, on newer models, IP video, so integration depends on whether your chartplotter accepts a direct video feed or needs a network connection instead; older MFDs often only support one or the other. Mounting height and a clear, vibration free line of sight forward both affect image quality more than the camera specification does, so it is worth thinking about placement alongside the camera choice, particularly on a flybridge or arch where vibration is highest.
