Garmin Head Units
Garmin pairs decades of GPS heritage with some of the most capable sonar and chartplotting on the water. This is the Garmin head units range: marine stereo head units and black-box sources.

Building out a Garmin audio system
Some models in this range are standalone head units with a display and controls, while others are black-box sources designed to be tucked away and run entirely from a remote or a linked chartplotter, so decide which layout suits your helm before choosing a unit. Zone control on the larger models lets you run different volume, or even different sources, at separate speaker zones such as cockpit and cabin.
Check network compatibility before buying: some units connect via Garmin Marine Network for tighter integration with GPSMAP or ECHOMAP displays, while others rely on NMEA 2000 for basic source and volume data only. These are not the same thing, and a unit expecting the Garmin network will not get full functionality from an NMEA 2000 connection alone.
Existing speakers and amplifiers generally carry over to a new head unit provided impedance and wiring match, so a head unit swap rarely means rewiring the whole boat.
