Getting the radar cable run right

Raymarine radar scanners connect back to the display using a dedicated cable, usually terminated in a RayNet connector at one end; the run length between scanner and processor affects both power delivery and data integrity, so a longer run than the scanner's standard cable may need a heavier gauge extension rather than a simple joiner. Check which connector your specific radome or open array uses, since Raymarine has moved between cable types across different generations of scanner.

Mounting brackets need to suit both the scanner's weight and the mast or arch it is fixed to; open array scanners in particular need a rigid mount, since flex at speed affects picture quality more than most owners expect. Cable glands and deck seals at every hull or deck penetration are worth checking even if they were not supplied with the radar, since a loose gland is a common source of water ingress into the cable run.
