Choosing between Simrad's display tiers
Simrad's multifunction displays span from smaller helm-mount units to full networked systems feeding multiple stations, and the practical choice usually comes down to how the boat is used rather than screen size alone. Touchscreen-only displays work well at a sheltered helm but can be harder to operate reliably in spray or with gloves, which is where models with a physical keypad or rotary dial alongside the touchscreen tend to suit open helms and offshore use better.
Sonar capability also varies by model: some displays include a sonar module built in, while others need an external black box to add side and down scanning. Check this before assuming a given display will show forward or side sonar out of the box. Networked systems share radar, sonar and chart data over Ethernet, with NMEA 2000 handling the lower-bandwidth instrument and engine data, so a multi-station boat needs both networks planned, not just power run to each screen.
