Cabling a Simrad radar correctly
Radar cable runs carry both power and data, and the length from the pedestal or dome at the masthead down to the display is usually longer than most installers expect once cable ties, cable trays and a few extra loops for slack are accounted for. Buy a length with margin rather than matching a measured run exactly, since radar cable connectors are not something to splice mid-cable if you fall short.
Deck and mast glands need to match the cable's outer diameter to keep the run watertight where it passes through fibreglass or aluminium, and a drip loop on the inside face of any gland stops water tracking back along the cable into the boat. Brackets for open array and radome units differ in load rating, so match the bracket to the specific radar model's weight and footprint rather than a generic mount.
