What sits behind a Simrad sounder
Most Simrad transducers here are built by Airmar and share Airmar's mix-and-match connector system, so the transducer element and the plug are often sold and replaced separately from each other. That matters if you are upgrading an older boat: the housing might be original while the cable and connector need to suit the current display generation.
Broadband and CHIRP sounder modules pair with specific transducer frequency ranges, so check which module is fitted, or planned, before choosing a transducer, since a wideband CHIRP transducer gains little if it is driven by an older single frequency sounder. Transom, in-hull and through-hull options carry the same fitting considerations as any other brand: hull material, deadrise and boat speed all affect which mounting style performs best.
