Description

The Simarine SC503 is a high-current combo shunt for the PICO battery monitoring system. It measures battery current from 0.01 A up to 500 A continuous with ±1% accuracy and 0.01 A resolution, sampling every 100 ms, and handles peaks of 700 A for under 5 minutes and 1000 A for under 1 minute. That makes it the main battery shunt in most PICO installations.

It is more than a shunt. Alongside the current measurement, the SC503 has 2 voltage inputs (0 to 75 V) for starter or auxiliary batteries, resistance inputs R1, R2 and a JST socket (0 to 65 kΩ) for tank senders, and an input for a Simarine NTC 10k temperature sensor. Voltage drop across the shunt is 41.6 mV at 500 A. It can be wired on the negative or the positive side of the battery and connects with M10 bolts.

The module runs from 6 to 35 V DC, draws about 1.2 mA and works from -20 to 70 °C. It measures 125 x 70 x 22 mm and links to the PICO display, or to other Simarine monitoring panels, over the SiCOM data bus. Simarine makes the SC503 in Slovenia and covers it with a 3-year warranty.

Do I need a SC503 for a PICO system?
Yes, at least one Simarine shunt is needed to measure battery current and state of charge. The SC303 or SC503 is normally used for the main battery bank.
Can it go on the positive side?
Yes. Simarine documents installation on either the negative or the positive side of the battery.
What can the extra inputs be used for?
The 2 voltage inputs monitor starter or auxiliary batteries, the resistance inputs read tank senders, and the NTC input takes a Simarine temperature sensor.
Does it work on 24 V?
The module operates from 6 to 35 V DC, covering 12 V and 24 V systems.
What warranty does it have?
Simarine products carry a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase.
