Building a clean NMEA 2000 backbone
A NMEA 2000 network is built from a single backbone cable with T-connectors dropping off to each device, terminated with a resistor at both ends and powered at one point rather than several; getting any of those wrong is the most common reason a network reports intermittent or missing data rather than failing outright. Actisense's plug-and-play components (T-pieces, drop cables, power taps) are built to the standard connector and pin-out, so they mix freely with other makers' NMEA 2000 hardware on the same backbone.
Device count and cable length both draw on the network's power budget, so a longer backbone with many devices may need a separate power injection point rather than relying on a single feed from one end.
Actisense's gateways (such as the NGT-1) are also the usual route for bridging an older NMEA 0183 instrument or GPS onto a modern NMEA 2000 backbone, which is worth considering before replacing still-working older equipment outright.
