Alternator output and your battery bank

Alternator output needs to be matched to the battery bank it is charging, not just to the engine, since a high-output alternator feeding an undersized bank will push more current than the batteries can safely absorb, while an undersized alternator on a large bank will simply take longer to recharge. Check the bank's chemistry and capacity before selecting an alternator rating.

The smart regulator is where most of the value in a Zeus setup sits, since it manages the charge curve properly rather than relying on the alternator's built-in regulation, and Bluetooth models allow charge parameters to be checked and adjusted from a phone rather than a laptop. Belt and pulley sizing also needs checking against the higher output, since a standard belt can slip under sustained high-current charging.

Fit a temperature sensor to the alternator where the regulator supports one, since it lets the charge curve back off as the unit heats up.
