Building an audio system that survives salt spray
A head unit is only as good as what it is asked to drive, so start with power rather than features. Fusion and Kicker both rate amplifiers and speakers in RMS rather than peak watts; match speaker power handling to the amplifier's channel output, and check impedance, commonly 4 ohm, before wiring more than one pair per channel.
Waterproofing is graded, not absolute. Look for an IPX6 or higher rating on anything mounted in the cockpit or flybridge, and use marine-grade tinned cable with the correct fuse rating for the run length, since standard automotive wire corrodes and undersized cable is a common cause of amplifier shutdown. Subwoofers draw the most current, so give that circuit its own fused feed back to the battery.
