SimNet versus standard NMEA 2000
SimNet is Navico's own connector standard, used across B&G and Simrad equipment, and it carries the same NMEA 2000 data underneath a different, five pin plug. That means SimNet devices and standard NMEA 2000 devices can share one network, but only once you bridge the two connector types with the right adaptor cables or a combination backbone.
Where a boat has a mix of B&G instruments and other NMEA 2000 equipment such as an engine interface or AIS unit, the backbone typically runs in whichever connector standard the majority of devices use, with adaptors at the minority connection points rather than converting the whole network.
As with any NMEA 2000 style network, termination at both ends of the backbone and a properly sized power feed are what keep the system reading reliably once everything is connected.
