B&G Transducers

B&G Transducers

B&G is the sailor's brand, engineered around sailing-specific navigation and instruments. This is the B&G transducers range: the in-hull, transom and thru-hull sensors that feed your sonar.

Transom, thru-hull or in-hull fitting

A transducer needs to talk to the sonar module or display it is paired with, so checking the connector and pin count against your existing B&G unit is the first step, not the transducer's beam angle or frequency. Transom-mount transducers are the simplest to fit, bolted through the bottom edge of the hull above the waterline, but they can pick up turbulence on a stepped or heavily angled hull at speed.

Thru-hull transducers pass through a hole below the waterline and need the mounting angle matched to the boat's deadrise for a flat, level face to the water; in-hull versions are bonded inside the hull with a shoe of epoxy or oil, avoiding a hull penetration altogether, but they only work through solid glass rather than cored construction, and with some loss of high-frequency performance.

CHIRP transducers sweep a range of frequencies rather than a single one, generally giving better target separation than a fixed-frequency unit; check which CHIRP bands your B&G display actually supports before choosing one.
