Getting cable gauge and runs right
Marine audio cabling has to cope with vibration, damp and long runs that automotive cable is not designed for, which is why tinned copper conductors and marine-rated insulation matter more here than in a car install. Speaker cable gauge should be chosen for the run length as well as the power going through it; a long run to a flybridge or cockpit speaker needs a heavier gauge than the same speaker mounted next to the amplifier, or you will lose volume and clarity to resistance in the cable.
RCA cables carry a low-level signal and are more sensitive to interference than speaker wire, so keep them away from power cables and bilge pumps where possible, and use waterproof connectors at any joint that sits below deck level or near an open cockpit. A complete run from a Fusion or Kicker head unit to speakers and a subwoofer will usually need power cable, RCA leads, speaker cable, and a properly fused connection at the battery.
