Wiring audio into a Garmin system
Garmin's marine audio integration runs through a mix of dedicated harnesses and standard connectors depending on which head unit and stereo you're pairing. Some Fusion and Garmin combinations talk over NMEA 2000 for basic control, while the actual audio signal still runs on separate speaker or line level cabling, so it's worth being clear on which job each cable is doing before you start pulling wire.
Adaptors in this range exist because Garmin has changed connector types across product generations, so a cable that fitted an older chartplotter or stereo may not plug straight into a current model without one. Checking the exact part numbers for both ends of the connection avoids a wasted trip back to the boat.
Keep audio cable runs separated from bilge pump and engine wiring where you can, since interference picked up along the run tends to show as hum or noise at the speakers rather than anything more obvious.
