Completing a multi camera installation

A single Iris camera can often run straight to a display, but once a boat has more than one camera, a switcher becomes the practical way to bring feeds together onto one screen rather than running multiple monitors around the helm. Distribution amplifiers let one camera feed several displays without signal loss, which is useful for showing an engine room or docking camera on both a helm display and a cockpit screen.

PoE injectors simplify wiring by carrying power and video over a single cable to each camera, cutting down the separate power runs an installation would otherwise need, and joysticks or controllers give manual pan, tilt and zoom control over compatible camera models from the helm. Cable count and run length grow quickly on a multi-camera system, so it is worth mapping out how many cameras, displays and controllers you actually need before buying the switcher, since capacity varies between models.
