Matching speaker power to your amplifier
Kicker rates its marine speakers in RMS and peak power, and the figure that matters for a safe pairing is RMS: an amplifier should generally deliver power within the speaker's RMS rating rather than close to its peak figure, since sustained peak power will damage a voice coil over time. Coaxial speakers combine woofer and tweeter in one unit and suit most installs, while component sets separate the tweeter for more precise imaging, at the cost of a slightly more involved install.
Impedance needs checking too; wiring two 4 ohm speakers to a single amplifier channel changes the load the amplifier sees, and not every amplifier is stable at the resulting impedance. Tweeter placement affects clarity more than most people expect, since a tweeter mounted low or shielded by hardware loses high-frequency detail compared with one angled towards the seating area.
If speakers include RGB lighting, keep that wiring separate from the audio signal cable to avoid noise in the output.
