Sizing Lewmar deck gear correctly

Windlasses are matched to chain size and grade, not just boat length, so the gypsy has to be ordered for the specific chain (and rope-to-chain splice, if fitted) actually carried on board; a gypsy cut for one chain calibre will slip or jump on another. Anchors follow a similar logic, sized against displacement and windage rather than deck length alone.

Bow and stern thrusters are specified by tunnel diameter and voltage, and the choice between them usually comes down to available space forward and the boat's electrical system rather than raw thrust figures on their own. Hatches and portlights need checking against the deck or coachroof cut-out and frame depth, since Lewmar's ranges have changed profile over the years and a direct swap is not always guaranteed on an older boat.

Winches are chosen by load, not just size on deck, based on sail area and expected sheet loads. Get in touch if you are trying to match new gear to an existing cut-out or an older Lewmar installation.
