Pairing an open array with a Lowrance chartplotter comes down to matching data protocol and cable connector as much as choosing array size; not every scanner talks to every display natively, so checking compatibility with your specific HDS or Elite model before ordering avoids the most common fitting problem.
Array length is the main factor in how well the radar separates two targets sitting close together on a similar bearing, a longer array producing a narrower horizontal beam and sharper separation, which matters more on a boat doing offshore passages or working in busy shipping lanes than on one used mainly on a home estuary.
Mounting an open array means checking mast, arch or radar mount strength and swing clearance, since these units are heavier and larger than a radome and put more leverage on their mount underway. Cable run length between the scanner and the display also needs checking against what is supplied, as radar cable is a specialist item best ordered to the correct length rather than joined.
