How Maretron sensors feed your network
Maretron's transducers differ from a typical sonar transducer in one key respect: they put depth, speed or temperature data directly onto a NMEA 2000 network rather than needing a dedicated sounder module or chartplotter to interpret the signal. That makes them well suited to instrument-only setups, or boats where depth and speed data needs to reach several displays and a data logger rather than just one plotter.
Mounting position still follows the same rules as any other hull sensor: thru-hull fittings need enough deadrise to seat correctly, or a fairing block to correct the angle; transom-mount units are easier to retrofit but read less accurately at speed; and in-hull sensors avoid a hull penetration at the cost of some signal strength through the laminate. Depth transducers in particular need positioning clear of turbulence from the hull or any fittings ahead of them, or readings become unreliable at speed.
