How MasterBus ties panels together
Mastervolt's panels and monitors communicate over MasterBus, the company's own network protocol, which links chargers, inverters and battery monitors so that one panel or app can show the whole power system rather than a single component in isolation. This is different from NMEA 2000, so check whether a given panel needs a MasterBus connection, a separate NMEA 2000 gateway, or both, before assuming it will talk to non-Mastervolt equipment on the boat.
A panel gives a fixed, always-on view at the helm or nav station, while app-based monitoring adds the convenience of checking status from anywhere on board over Bluetooth, though it depends on a phone or tablet being to hand rather than a permanent display. On a system with several Mastervolt components already fitted, a monitoring panel is often the more useful addition, since it consolidates data that would otherwise need checking on each unit separately.
