Replacing discontinued Mercury electronics

Mercury's engine-linked displays and gauges, including older VesselView units, generally read engine data over a NMEA 2000 or SmartCraft connection, so a discontinued display can often be replaced by a current unit without rewiring the engine harness itself, provided the new display supports the same data protocol. Where an engine is older and only outputs SmartCraft, check whether a current display still supports that legacy protocol directly or needs a gateway to bridge onto NMEA 2000.

Specification sheets and wiring references remain on this page for exactly this reason, to help trace a fault or match a replacement even though the original product is no longer sold. Where no direct Mercury equivalent exists, a third-party NMEA 2000 display capable of reading engine data is usually the more practical route than searching for old stock. Ask the team if you are trying to work out what your engine will actually talk to.
