Fitting a pod at the helm

A helm or deck pod gives a display its own dedicated mount rather than relying on a flush cut-out in the dash or bulkhead, which is useful where the existing helm has no suitable flat panel, or where a second display is being added away from the main console. Pods are generally sized for a specific Raymarine display range, so checking the model and screen size against the pod's specification before ordering avoids a mismatch between bracket and unit.

Cable routing is worth planning before fitting, since most pods carry power and data cable through the mounting arm or base rather than leaving it exposed, and the cable gland or entry point needs to be sized for the connector on the display's cable, which can be bulkier than the cable itself. Deck-mounted pods should also be checked against the mounting surface thickness and bolt pattern given in the pod's own fitting instructions before drilling.
