Raymarine NMEA 0183
Raymarine NMEA 0183 interfaces, cables and accessories for connecting legacy instruments and third-party electronics to your Raymarine system.
Bridging older kit to a Raymarine system
NMEA 0183 remains common on older instruments, third-party autopilots and some VHF radios, and it does not share a physical connection standard with Raymarine's SeaTalkng or SeaTalkhs networks, so an interface is needed to move data between the two rather than simply wiring them together. These interfaces typically convert 0183 serial sentences into NMEA 2000 messages the rest of a Raymarine network can read, or the reverse, depending on which direction the data needs to travel.
Baud rate is worth checking on older 0183 devices, since some legacy equipment, particularly older AIS receivers, uses a faster baud rate than standard 0183 instruments, and a mismatch will show as no data reaching the display even though the cable itself is wired correctly.
Cable runs on 0183 are typically a dedicated pair per device rather than a shared backbone, so retrofitting an older instrument into a modern Raymarine system usually means running a new cable back to the interface point rather than tapping into an existing NMEA 2000 drop.
