SeaTalkNG explained for a Raymarine network
Raymarine's SeaTalkNG is its version of NMEA 2000, sharing the same underlying data protocol but using its own connector and cable colour scheme rather than the standard Micro-C fitting used by most other brands. That means a SeaTalkNG backbone needs Raymarine's own spur and backbone cables, T-pieces and terminators, or a dedicated adaptor cable where it meets a device using a different connector standard, such as an Actisense interface or another manufacturer's instrument.
A typical SeaTalkNG network starts with a backbone kit covering terminators at each end, a power cable feeding the network, and enough five-way connectors to add spurs as devices are added; buying components individually rather than as a kit means checking terminator count and backbone length against the published limits yourself. As with any N2K variant, the network's total current draw and cable length both have manufacturer limits, so a network that has grown over several seasons is worth reviewing as a whole rather than device by device.
