Matching a cable seal to your cable run
A low-profile cable seal is chosen by the outside diameter of the cable passing through it, not by the deck hole size alone, so measure the cable itself, including its outer jacket, before ordering. Too loose a fit around the cable defeats the waterproofing even if the seal is rated well on its own.
These seals suit a single cable run through a deck or coachroof, typically for an antenna, aerial or sensor cable, and multiple cables sharing one seal is not something these low-profile designs are built for. Where more than one cable needs to pass through the same point, a multi-way gland or a second seal is the more reliable route.
Fit the seal with the manufacturer's recommended sealant or gasket underneath, since the seal itself only protects the cable penetration and does not replace proper bedding of the fitting into the deck.
