Replacing an older Simrad unit

When a display, radar or sonar module is retired, its specification often carries across to a current model, but the connectors do not always match. Older units used SimNet rather than the now standard NMEA 2000 micro connector, so a like for like swap can still need an adaptor cable or a change to the network backbone. Check the data port on any transducer or autopilot course computer you are keeping before assuming it will plug straight into a new display.

Chart cards are another common sticking point, since older plotters often read a proprietary format or an SD card size current units do not support, so cartography usually needs repurchasing alongside the hardware. If you are trying to match a retired part number to its current equivalent, tell us the model or part number and we can confirm what replaces it.
