Bridging SimNet into NMEA 2000

SimNet is Simrad's older proprietary backbone, used before the industry standardised on NMEA 2000, and while the two carry similar data, the connectors are different and cannot be joined without an adaptor. A SimNet to NMEA 2000 adaptor cable is usually the simplest way to bring an older Simrad or B&G instrument onto a current NMEA 2000 network, rather than rewiring the whole backbone.

Where a boat has a mix of SimNet and NMEA 2000 devices, it is worth mapping out which instruments are on which backbone before adding new hardware, since a device built for one will not plug directly into the other. T-connectors, power taps and terminators are also different between the two systems, so check you are ordering the correct family of parts for the backbone you are extending.
